Regional Workshop "Using Technology to Prevent and Combat Corruption"
Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,
6/15/2022 - 6/16/2022
Organized by: UNDP-ACIAC in cooperation with the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission
In cooperation with the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a regional workshop in Amman, Jordan, on 15 and 16 June 2022 as part of the regional project on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries (ACIAC), which is implemented in partnership with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The regional workshop focused on the role of technological innovations in tackling corruption for accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This includes the prevention of corruption through strengthening transparency, enhancing internal controls, and generally reducing corruption risks in the public and private spheres, as well as the combating of corruption through facilitating the ability to detect and investigate, to track related cases and to use data for securing convictions and even recovering stolen assets.
The sessions informed participants about the latest technologies for preventing and combating corruption by presenting and discussing the findings of two studies that were carried out by the UNDP. The first is on the foundations necessary for using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) against corruption and the other is on new advanced technologies for sustainable development such as blockchain, big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The workshop was attended by representatives of anti-corruption agencies, oversight bodies and other government entities tasked with related roles and responsibilities from across the Arab region, in addition to experts from the region as well as partner countries and organizations.
