United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, February 25, 2009
On Feb. 24, 2009, a first degree court in Dubai sentenced Ex-minister of State, Khalifa Bakheet, to 2 years in prison. Bakheet and 2 accomplices [an American and An Indian] attempted in 2007 to take over a big company owned by a Lebanese businessman through forging ownership documents. The widow of the Lebanese man sued them and submitted original documents that proved her husband's ownership. When the scandal broke out, the minister of state was dismissed from office. The court decided that the minister's son was not guilty in the fraud case. The 2 accomplices were sentenced to 2 years in prison to be deported after that.
