11/11/2024 - 11/11/2024
Organized by:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized a workshop titled "Supporting Water Sector Integrity in Tunisia." The workshop took place in Tunis on 11 November 2024, with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) as part of its regional partnership with UNDP on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in Arab Countries.
The workshop is part of ongoing efforts to implement the recommendations of the corruption risk assessment conducted in the water sector. Prepared by the Ministry with support from the aforementioned partnership, the assessment focuses on areas such as licensing the extraction of underground water and investment-related incentives in the sector.
The workshop offered an opportunity to officially launch the assessment findings, present the recommendations in detail, and discuss practical strategies for their implementation in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. The workshop served as a platform to introduce international partners to this innovative initiative, fostering dialogue on ways to align efforts and expand its scope to other areas.
The workshop brought together leaders from the water sector in the Republic of Tunisia, along with representatives from various public institutions, the private sector, civil society, international partners, and experts in governance and water management. They explored key opportunities and challenges facing the water sector in Tunisia, from the perspective of advancing governance reforms. Discussions also emphasized strengthening the integrity of the water sector through its four key dimensions: transparency, accountability, participation, and the rule of law.
