Specialized Training "Implementation Review Mechanism of the UN Convention Against Corruption (Chapters II and V)" in Tunisia

The United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), which entered into force on 14 December 2005, is considered one of the main points of convergence in global efforts to combat corruption. To date, 189 countries, including 21 Arab countries, have committed to implementing it. The convention serves as a roadmap for the measures that should be taken to combat corruption. The review mechanism of the Convention, established in 2009, provides an important opportunity for countries to identify gaps in implementation and technical assistance needs related to supporting national reforms to enhance integrity and combat corruption. In this context, UNDP’s Regional Project on Anti-Corruption and Integrity in the Arab Countries, and with the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is holding a workshop on "Implementation Review Mechanism of the UN Convention Against Corruption (Chapters II and V)" in Tunis on 23-25 January 2023, for the benefit of the government experts team responsible for preparing the self-assessment report on the implementation of the Convention, in cooperation with the General Control of Public Services, with its head the national focal point for UNCAC. The workshop focuses on implementing outputs from a consultations and coordination path initiated by a technical meeting between experts and UNDP representatives on 7 March 2022. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance understanding of the requirements for implementing Chapters II and V and relevant review methodologies, with an emphasis on practical aspects, by utilizing the lessons derived from the outputs of the first review cycle, which covered Chapters III and IV of the Convention.
