Fourth Expert Meeting on Anti-Corruption Bills in the Republic of Tunisia

On 8-9 March 2016, the « Ministry of Public Function, Governance and Anti-Corruption » and the Office of the Advisor for Law and Legislation in the Government of the Republic of Tunisia organized the fourth expert meeting in Tunis on “Anti-Corruption Bills in the Republic of Tunisia”, with the support of the “United Nations Development Programme” (UNDP) and in cooperation with the “Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network” (ACINET). The event was a continuation of the support UNDP has been providing to Tunisia since 2013-2014 to strengthen its anti-corruption legislative framework. More specifically, the meeting supported the intergovernmental steering committee in charge of strengthening the anti-corruption legislative framework to merge two bills on illicit enrichment and asset declaration; while also integrating provisions related to conflicts of interest, and to review a bill on the protection of whistleblowers of corruption in the public sector, in accordance with national needs and international standards and namely the UN Convention against Corruption. Members of the intergovernmental steering committee as well as other relevant Tunisian stakeholders and namely parliamentarians participated in the meeting. The event drew on specialized expertise from within UNDP as well as ACINET and partner countries.
