The works of the Regional Workshop on Enhancing Transparency in the Private Sector and the Roles of Different Stakeholders in Arab Countries concluded on 8 June 2012 in Tunis, under the high patronage of H.E the President of the Republic of Tunisia. Participants agreed to build on the workshop’s conclusions through a series of activities including the organization of a series of local roundtables in the region to enhance private sector transparency, the establishment of action plans that take the local context and priorities into consideration and the organization of a second regional workshop that tracks progress achieved and maps the way forward. Participants also agreed to develop two courses, the first aimed at university students studying law and the second aimed at compliance officers and business managers in small and medium enterprises in Arab countries on anti-corruption in business transactions. More than 70 participants from various Arab countries including representatives from governments, businesses, and civil society organizations were present and discussed specific components of private sector transparency drawing on related international standards and good practices and exchanged their expertise on the various incentives and sanctions that could be adopted by different stakeholders to enhance related efforts in the Arab region.
